Online Learning: Beat Distraction for Good!

Hey everyone! Ever since online education became a thing, studying has become a bit tricky, hasn’t it? The comfort of home, social media notifications… There are so many distractions! Maybe it’s happened to you, you’re trying to focus on the lesson and suddenly you find yourself on Instagram. Don’t worry, you’re not alone!

So, how do we deal with this distraction in online education? Here are a few tips for you, I’ll tell you as if we’re chatting over coffee.

1. Prepare the Environment, Prepare the Mind:

The place where you study is very important. Studying in bed? Big mistake! If possible, set up a separate desk. A regular area dedicated only to studying puts your mind in that mode.

2. Say Goodbye to Notifications:

Silence your phone, or even leave it in another room if possible. Turn off unnecessary notifications on your computer as well. Just imagine, a notification comes when you’re fully focused on the lesson… All your concentration flies away!

3. Focus with the Pomodoro Technique:

I don’t know if you’ve heard of this technique, but it’s great! Study for 25 minutes, take a 5-minute break. Repeat this cycle. Short breaks help refresh your attention. Even getting up and moving around a bit is good.

4. Taking Notes is a Must:

Take notes during the lesson. Actively participating instead of just listening helps you pay attention to the lesson. Emphasize important points while taking notes, summarize them in your own words.

Extra Tips for Distraction in Online Learning

5. Set a Goal:

Before each lesson, set a short goal for what you want to learn in that lesson. This helps you focus your attention on that goal. Check if you have achieved your goal at the end of the lesson. This also motivates you.

6. Take Care of Yourself:

Studying while sleep-deprived, hungry or thirsty? Impossible! Get enough sleep, eat healthy and drink plenty of water. The better your body is, the better your mind works.

7. Say Goodbye to the Screen During Breaks:

Looking at the phone or browsing the computer during breaks… It further tires your eyes and mind. Instead, get up and walk around a bit, look out the window, have a snack. Doing a completely different activity will make you more energetic for the next lesson.

Remember, dealing with distraction in online education is entirely up to you. By trying these methods, you can find the ones that suit you best. Good luck!
